We are happy to report that our supervising Ministry, the newly established Ministry of The Environment was ranked first in the 2020 Ministerial Performance assessment with an overall ministerial average score of 86.4%. The ranking was done by the Office of the Chief Minister based on the evidence of implementation submitted for the year under review. The Ministry of the Environment was able to score 85.3% and was ranked 1st during the first quarter. In the second quarter, it scored 82.5% and was ranked 3rd; it again scored 82.2% for the third quarter and was ranked 6th while for the final quarter, it scored 95.6% and was ranked 1st.As one of the entities/Agencies under the Ministry of the Environment, we are happy for this development. As always, the EPA stands ready to give the Ministry the requisite cooperation and support it requires. It could be recalled that following its creation by His Excellency, the President, Rtd. Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio, several government entities have been brought under its supervision. These are; the Environment Protection Agency of Sierra Leone, the Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority, the National Protected Area Authority, the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency and the Forestry and Wild Life Conservation Unit at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. With such an impressive record just months after its creation, our country must be hopeful that President Bio’s vision for a sustainable environment in Sierra Leone is on sight.
