The Environment Protection Agency has concluded trainings for stakeholder members in the recently established Chiefdom Environment Enforcement Coordination Committees (CEECOM) for decentralised environmental governance.

Stakeholder committee members in ten chiefdoms from Bo, Moyamba, Kenema, Tonkolili, and Port Loko districts were selected based on the composition stated in section 68 of the EPA Act of 2022.
They were trained to operationalize the objectives of #CEECOM and guided by the Action Plan to carry out joint field monitoring activities effectively, chiefdom-level complaints investigations and fines, budget planning, and financial reporting. The #EPA will also provide small amounts to each #CEECOM to carry out a few initiatives aimed at strengthening law enforcement, awareness raising and evidence generation at the chiefdom level.

Through simulation exercises, stakeholder committee members demonstrated their understanding of the nature of operations, scope of jurisdiction, and reporting techniques required to implement the activities in the Action Plan.

Conclusively, we are assured of their commitment to not only implement the objectives of #CEECOM but also make every effort to advance sustainable practices at the chiefdom level.

Exciting times ahead.
