We held our midterm review to assess our progress as we move through 2026 and adjust our targets for the rest of the year with a sharper focus and a commitment to significant advancements in a variety of areas, including revenue mobilisation, infrastructure development, compliance monitoring, enforcement, conservation efforts, pollution control, and environmental governance
In the first half of this year, we met nearly half of our internal revenue target for FY26, made significant progress on the Bo office construction, which is now 85% complete, secured $26.2 million in mine rehabilitation guarantees, and performed 653 environmental monitoring inspections.
We also increased our enforcement efforts against unlawful dredging, resulting in the destruction of 63 dredges and the arrest of 14 persons.
In addition, we processed 58 Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) applications, one which was rejected; established three more Chiefdom Environmental Enforcement Committees making hit thirteen in total, recovered NLe 7.8 million through court actions and fines; validated Sierra Leone’s third National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP 3.0); and completed the country’s first National Pollutant Inventory.
These results, along with numerous other accomplishments across our directorates and regional offices, illustrate an institution that is moving steadily from vision to action and from routine tasks to tangible results. Thus, the #MTR served not just as a performance review but also as a renewed call to sharpen our priorities, bridge delivery gaps, strengthen collaboration, and ensure that the remainder of 2026 brings even more impactful outcomes for our people, communities, and the environment.
We could not have accomplished all of this without the unwavering work ethics and dedication of our staff, the government, our partners, compliant proponents, and the general public.
The agency expresses its heartfelt gratitude and reiterate its commitment to continue building a stronger institution capable of effectively creating an environmentally secure future for Sierra Leone.
